Artist Dave Dickey was born and raised in the Los Angeles area and has since resided in inspiring locales such as Hawaii, Japan and Costa Rica.
Currently, Dickey calls San Diego home. He is a completely self-taught
artist who began creating as a child, using pencil as his medium and the
scenic backdrop of the ocean and beaches, as well as the legendary art of
Rick Griffin, as his inspiration.
As both Dickey and his work matured, he switched to oil paints, which have
allowed his paintings to come to life in a magical way – composed of fiery
and expressive skies, colorful undulating ocean waves, and swaying lush palm
trees — which transport the viewer to a beachside paradise. For over a
decade, Dickey has had a waiting list of people who’ve commissioned him to
create works of art, however he also donates many of his paintings and
canvas prints to raise money for charities. He has been a part of multiple
exclusive, invitation-only showings at museums from Texas and California to
Tokyo, won special awards, and his art is celebrated on the walls of
celebrities’ homes. Currently, the Surf Museum in Oceanside, California
has assembled a brand new exhibition of Dickey’s work.
Dickey’s art is best viewed from multiple angles…as well as up close and
at a distance…to truly appreciate all of the nuances and details infused
in each one of his pieces. Any way you view them, however, they remain
awe-inspiringly beautiful and expressive.
